Rip-it, rip-it good!

I decided to completely unravel a knit silk tank I bought a few months ago at a thrift store. In it's self not a strange idea. It was starting to catch and unravel on it's own, I just helped it along. I I have 2 large navel orange sized balls of 10 strands of silk. I can't call it yarn, it's not earned that yet, it's not plied. When it's done it'll be fingering weight. That will happen soon, cause I have plans to have a knit silk scarf. I have linen, and wool/silk, so why not pure silk? And it's green already, so it shows that I'm being thrifty and recycling something. Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Now for the crazy part. I'm going further, I'm doing the same to a knit silk sweater set of me mum's (with permission, did you think I wanted to die?) that she can't wear because of the color. A very light mocha, or maybe a taupe. Not good with her complexion. It's 4 strands of silk together, so will make a lovely lace weight once it's plied and cabled. I figure I should get well over 1,000 yards for some hard work. Worth it. I've got the cap-sleeved sweater separated, and just finished undoing the first sleeve. It's gonna take a while, but I like the yarn, and will dye it a pretty color, maybe make a dark color. But if I do that it will be AFTER it's knit. Knitting lace in dark yarns is a job for someone who's already blind.
